Brief Introduction

Introduction of Shivraj Municipality

Shivraj Municipality was established in 2071 BS (2014 AD) by merging the former Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Shivpur, Veerpur, Chhanai, Bisunpur, and Jawabhari. As part of the local level restructuring, the municipality was reorganized on February 27, 2073 BS (2017 AD) by incorporating the former VDCs of Shivgadhi, Thunhiya, and Lalpur as well.

Geographical Location

Shivraj Municipality is located between 27 degrees 34 minutes 6 seconds to 27 degrees 47 minutes 44 seconds north latitude and 82 degrees 43 minutes 52 seconds to 82 degrees 56 minutes 7 seconds east longitude. It is situated at an elevation ranging from 700 feet to 1000 feet above sea level. The total area of the municipality is 284.08 square kilometers. It is bordered by Buddhabhumi Municipality to the east, Vijay Nagar Rural Municipality to the west, Arghakhanchi and Dang districts to the north, and Krishnanagar and Maharajganj Municipalities to the south. The municipality has 11 wards and is located approximately 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, Taulihawa, along the East-West Highway.

Historical Significance and Naming

Shivraj Municipality is named after the historic Shivgadhi area, a renowned religious site near Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, the harbinger of peace. The municipality was established by merging the former VDCs of Shivpur, Veerpur, Chhanai, Bisunpur, and Jawabhari in 2071 BS (2014 AD). It was reorganized on February 27, 2073 BS (2017 AD) to include the former VDCs of Shivgadhi, Thunhiya, and Lalpur.

Political Status

Shivraj Municipality is one of the six municipalities and four rural municipalities in Kapilvastu District, which falls under Province No. 5. For the purpose of parliamentary elections, it falls under Constituency No. 3, and for the Provincial Assembly elections, it is in Constituency No. 3 (Kha). The municipal headquarters is located in Chandrauta Bazaar. The municipality consists of 11 wards.
